When I came to Singapore I had certain expectations, one of those was about the general cost of living here.

Sure I was told by many people and even by a quick look at Wikipedia that Singapore was not a cheap place to live by any measure. Street food was cheap but housing, alcohol and niche food items were supposedly expensive.

But being a young man from America (living right between NJ and NY was also a big factor) I thought to myself, “No way is it more expensive than living here. Worst case scenario I pay the same as I would if I were in the US.”

Now if I could go back in time and meet that young man from America I would give him a swift kick to his twig and berries.

This is the price of Ben and Jerry’s here in Singapore. You know that little pint of delicious ice cream goodness with all the whacky flavors. Yeah THAT (Gosh I love putting everything in bold, italics and caps) Ben and Jerry’s, same ice cream as in USA except for two pints here in Singapore and I could have filled up over half a tank of gas or bought a prime rib at any steak house.

Well after my immediate panic attack I had from the shock I realized this is probably a fair price since keeping anything frozen in Singapore with its ridiculous heat is a miracle. And apparently you need to pay a premium to eat miracles. Double taxation in US and Singapore probably didn’t help either but whatever.
